Carpets and rugs should be cleaned regularly with a brush or vacuum cleaner to remove sand and road grime. If they are heavily soiled, take them out of the vehicle for cleaning or sponge washing. Dry them thoroughly before putting them back in place. The seats and trim panels can be kept clean by wiping them with a damp cloth. If spots appear on them (which are more visible on light-colored upholstery), use a small amount of liquid detergent and a soft-bristled brush to clean the dirt from the fabric cells. Remember to keep the headlining as clean as the rest of the upholstery. When using liquid detergents inside the vehicle, do not overwet the surfaces to be cleaned. Too much moisture can cause water to seep into the seams and padding, causing stains, bad odors or even rot. It is very difficult to properly dry an accidentally wet car interior, especially if the mats get wet.
Warning. Do not leave electric or oil heaters used for drying inside the vehicle.
