1. Remove the tie rod ball joint.
2. Note the location of the protective cover on the steering rod. Release the clamps and slide the protective cover from the steering gear housing to the end of the tie rod.
3. Clean the steering rod and steering gear case from traces of corrosion, scoring and sharp edges.
4. Slide a new protective boot over the tie rod and secure it to the steering gear housing. Align the outer edge of the protective boot with the mark made on the tie rod before removal, and secure the boot with new clamps.
5. Install the tie rod ball joint.
