The steering rack is covered on both sides with corrugated covers. The covers should be inspected regularly because water and dirt that enter through cracks will damage the steering mechanism.

57. Turn the steering wheel to the stop. The boot corrugation will be stretched and you can check its condition. If there are cracks, the boot must be replaced.

58. Make sure that the cover mounting clamps are tightly tightened.

Protective caps and tie rod ends

The tie rod ends are a steel joint in a plastic shell. The joint is protected from dirt and moisture by a rubber cap, the condition of which must be checked during vehicle maintenance.

59. Check that the rubber of the caps is not cracked. If the caps are cracked, the tie rod ends should be replaced.
