54. Inspect, rotating the wheel, the protective covers of the CV joints. Make sure the rubber of the covers is not cracked, hardened or brittle. If the covers are cracked or damaged, then dirt and moisture will get into the CV joint, which will break it after a while.
55. Check up fastening of covers collars.
Traces of grease on the boot are a signal for concern, because special grease is stuffed into the CV joints and its lack can lead to hinge breakage.
56. Replace damaged boots yourself or give the corresponding drive shaft (SHRUS) to the workshop to replace the covers.
The service life of the drive shafts depends on the driving style. Do not do it «tear» from a place, forcing the wheels to spin, as well as to get under way on «full throttle» with wheels turned to the side.
Noises in the operation of the wheel drive shafts, as always, occur suddenly and can also suddenly stop. Rhythmic clicking noises when pressing the accelerator pedal or when coasting indicate a defect in the outer CV joint.
If the steering wheel vibrates when the wheels are turned to the side, then this is a sign of damage to the inner CV joint.
Clicking noises when pulling away while turning the wheels may indicate a defective drive shaft.
Attention! Similar noises can occur if the hub bearing is damaged.
