1. Place the car on a level surface.
2. Wait at least five minutes if the engine is at operating temperature to allow the oil to drain into the crankcase. It is best to check the oil level before starting the engine when it is cold.
3. Remove the dipstick. Wipe it with a lint-free cloth or paper towel and reinsert it, then remove it again. If the oil level is between both marks on the dipstick, everything is fine. If the level only reaches the lower mark on the dipstick, oil needs to be added.
As for replenishing the engine oil volume, it is recommended to adhere to the following rule. If the driving style and the nature of the movement are moderate, the oil level should be closer to the lower mark on the dipstick. If the car is constantly operated at high speeds, the oil level should be maintained higher, i.e. almost at the upper mark on the measuring dipstick.
Filling with too much engine oil has a negative effect on the engine. The oil level should not be above the MAX mark on the dipstick. It is not recommended to try to fill so much oil that its level reaches the MAX mark. Excess oil is quickly consumed, and at the same time carbon deposits are formed, which negatively affect the operation of the engine and the content of harmful substances in the exhaust gases. Excess engine oil in cars with a gasoline engine leads to damage to the catalytic converter.
You can change the oil yourself or entrust it to a workshop.
The engine oil should be changed once a year or at 10,000 km for diesel engines or 15,000 km for petrol engines. For petrol engines, it is recommended to use engine oil that meets the API SH or SG specification, and for diesel engines, API CD.
The oil filter must be replaced when the engine oil is changed.
Warm up the engine before draining the oil. To do this, just drive a short distance (within about 10 minutes).
4. Jack up the front of the car.
5. Remove the oil filler cap on the cylinder head.
6. Unscrew the drain plug at the bottom of the crankcase, placing a container underneath to collect the oil. Be careful, because the oil is hot.
7. After the oil has drained, screw in the drain plug, replacing it with a new sealing ring.
8. Replace the oil filter (see the relevant chapter).
9. Fill with the prescribed amount of engine oil.
10. Start the engine and check the oil level and the tightness of the drain plug and oil filter. Add oil if necessary.
