Replacing the steering gear protective covers (Peugeot 405)

1. Remove the steering rod ball joint.

2. Mark the location of the protective cover on the steering rod. Release the clamps and slide the protective cover from the steering gear housing to the end of the steering rod.

3. Clean the steering rod and steering gear housing from traces of corrosion, scoring and sharp edges.

4. Slide the new protective boot onto the steering rod and secure it to the steering gear housing. Align the outer edge of the protective boot with the mark made on the steering rod before removal and secure the boot with new clamps.

5. Install the steering rod ball joint.
