Caution: When reinstalling the ball joint, a new internal spring washer must be used.
Removal
1. Remove the tie rod end.
2. Remove the clamps and slide the steering gear protective cover along the steering rod.
3. Unscrew the inner ball joint of the steering rod from the toothed rack, holding the toothed rack from turning, fixing the lock washer of the ball joint with a pair of grips.
4. Remove the steering rod and lock washer.
5. Check the condition of the steering rod.
Installation
1. Install a new lock washer on the end of the rack and apply a locking agent to the internal threads of the ball joint.
2. Screw the ball joint into the rack, holding the lock washer with a pair of claws.
3. Install the steering gear protective cover.
4. Install the tie rod end.
5. Adjust the front wheel alignment.
