Models with XU5 and XU9 engines (except XU9J4)
Removing
1. Remove ground wire from battery.
2. On models with power steering, drain the hydraulic system as follows:
- remove the lid from the nutrient tank;
- place a container under the high pressure pipe coupling on the steering gear, then unscrew the connection;
- drain the liquid into a container;
- finish draining the oil from the circuit by turning the steering wheel several times in both directions until it stops;
- Disconnect the low pressure hose from the steering gear.
3. Secure the pump shaft against turning and loosen the pulley mounting bolts.
4. Loosen the alternator belt tensioner bolt and remove the pump drive belt.
5. Tilt the alternator up, tighten the tensioner mounting bolt.
6. Unscrew the bolts securing the pump pulley and remove the pulley.
7. Disconnect the oil supply line to the pump.
8. Loosen the hose clamp and disconnect the hose from the pump. If the hose clamp is a clamp type, discard it and install a new clamp with screw.
9. Remove the two front and two rear pump mounting bolts.
10. Remove the power steering pump.
The pump is not repairable and, if defective, must be replaced.
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following points:
- tighten all bolts to the required torque;
- adjust the tension of the drive belt;
- add fluid to the steering system.
Models with XU9J4 engines
Removing
1. Remove ground wire from battery.
2. On models with power steering, drain the hydraulic system as follows:

- Disconnect the low pressure hose from the steering gear.
3. Remove pump drive belt.
4. Unscrew the pipe coupling and disconnect the pipe from the pump.
5. Loosen the hose clamp and disconnect the hose from the pump. If the hose clamp is a clamp type, discard it and install a new clamp with screw.
6. Unscrew the pump mounting bolts and remove the pump.
The pump is not repairable and, if defective, must be replaced.

3. Raise the front of the car and secure it on stands. Remove the front right wheel.
4. Remove pump drive belt.
5. Unscrew the pipe coupling, and disconnect the pipe from the pump.
6. Loosen the hose clamp and disconnect the hose from the pump. If the hose clamp is a clamp type, discard it and install a new clamp with screw.
7. Unscrew the two front pump mounting bolts, which can be accessed through the holes in the pump pulley (see fig. An arrangement of two forward bolts of fastening of the pump of the amplifier of a steering).
8. Unscrew the rear pump mounting bolt, and remove the pump from the engine (see fig. An arrangement of a back bolt of fastening of the pump of the amplifier of a steering).
