Models without airbag
Removal
Caution: When installing the steering wheel back in place, you must use a new nut and washer.
1. Set the wheels to move straight ahead.
2. Using a lever, remove the trim from the center of the steering wheel.
3. Apply alignment marks between the end of the steering column shaft and the steering wheel hub.
4. Using a socket wrench with an extension, loosen the steering wheel mounting nut a few turns.
5. Using the palms of your hands, hit the back of the steering wheel hard to remove the steering wheel from the shaft grooves.
6. Completely unscrew the nut and remove the steering wheel.
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
Models with airbag
Caution! The airbag control unit is an integral part of the steering wheel.

Attention! When removing the steering wheel, the following requirements must be met:
- - do not throw the steering wheel;
- - do not disassemble the steering wheel;
- - do not install a steering wheel from another car model (even from other Peugeot 405 models), since the airbag control unit is calibrated for each specific model.
Removal

1. Remove the airbag.
2. Set the wheels to move straight ahead.
3. Apply alignment marks between the end of the steering column shaft and the steering wheel hub.
4. Using a socket wrench with an extension, loosen the steering wheel mounting nut a few turns.
5. Using the palms of your hands, hit the back of the steering wheel hard to remove the steering wheel from the shaft grooves.
6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the airbag control unit.
7. Completely unscrew the steering wheel mounting nut.
8. Remove the steering wheel by pulling the airbag wiring harness out through the steering wheel. Do not disconnect the airbag control unit electrical connector (located in the steering wheel).
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following points:
- align the marks applied before removal;
- install a new washer and tighten the steering wheel mounting nut to the required torque;
- install an airbag.
