Placement of vehicle steering and suspension components

Placement of vehicle steering and suspension components

The steering system has a rack and pinion steering gear and a safety steering column. The steering column has a universal joint located in the middle of the length, which is connected to the intermediate shaft, which has a second universal joint at the bottom. The lower universal joint is attached to the steering gear pinion with a clamping bolt.

The steering gear is mounted on the front lower frame and is connected by two steering rods with ball joints at the outer ends to the steering knuckle. The steering rod has a thread at the end for adjusting the wheel alignment angles. The steering rods are connected by ball joints to the rack and pinion steering gear.

Power steering (additional equipment) has a high pressure vane pump (belt driven from crankshaft pulley), rotary divider valve and hydraulic servo motor.
