Table of contents: Front wheel speed sensor 🠇 Rear wheel speed sensor 🠇
ABS sensors (see illustration 12.0) transmit information about the speed of rotation of the wheels to the engine control unit. The sensors receive information about the number of wheel revolutions by induction from the gears (see illustration 12.0a).
12.0 ABS Sensors
1 - rear wheel speed sensor
2 - front wheel speed sensor
12.0a ABS Sensors
1 - ABS sensor
2 - ABS sensor gear
Wheel speed sensors operate independently of each other and constantly monitor the speed of rotation of "their" wheel by registering the signal coming from the corresponding gear.
Front wheel speed sensor
Removal
1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal from the battery
2. Loosen bolt 1 and carefully remove sensor 2 (see illustration).
12.2 Loosen bolt 1 and carefully remove sensor 2
Installation
3. Make sure that the contact surfaces A and B of the sensor are clean and dry (see illustration).
12.3 Make sure that the contact surfaces A and B of the sensor are clean and dry
4. Install the front wheel speed sensor into its mounting location.
5. Tighten bolt 1 (see illustration 12.2) with a force of 10 Nm, after lubricating the bolt with Threadlock Loctite sealant.
Rear wheel speed sensor
Removal
6. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal from the battery.
7. Loosen bolt 1 and carefully remove sensor 2 (see illustration).
12.7 Loosen bolt 1 and carefully remove sensor 2
Installation
8. Make sure that the contact surfaces A and B of the sensor are clean and dry (see illustration).
12.8 Make sure that the contact surfaces A and B of the sensor are clean and dry
9. Install the front wheel speed sensor into its mounting location.
10. Tighten bolt 1 (see illustration 12.7) with a force of 10 Nm, after lubricating the bolt with Threadlock Loctite sealant.
