2. Release the parking brake.
3. Remove the rear brake discs (see relevant chapter).
4. Loosen locknut 1 (see illustration).
10.4 Loosen locknut 1
5. Loosen the tension of cables 3 and 4 of the parking brake actuator (see illustration 10.4).
6. Tighten nut 2 (see illustration 10.4).
7. Measure the inner diameter «A» drum on brake disc 5 (see illustration).
10.7 Measure the inner diameter «A» drum on brake disc 5
8. Adjust the position of the shoes 6 and 7 of the parking brake by tightening or loosening the tightening of the adjusting gear 8 of the expansion bar so that the distance «b» matched the inner diameter of the drum on the brake disc (see illustration). The pads should be 0.6 mm from the walls of the drum.
10.8 Adjust the position of shoes 6 and 7 of the parking brake by tightening or loosening the adjusting gear 8 of the expansion bar so that the distance «b» matched the inner diameter of the drum on the brake disc
9. To adjust the parking brake cables, tighten nut 2 (see illustration 10.4) so as to increase the tension of cable 3 in holder 9 on the right side and cable 4 in holder 10 on the left side (see illustrations 10.9 and 10.9a).
10.9 Tighten nut 2 (see illustration 10.4) so as to increase the tension of the cable 3 in the holder 9 on the right side
10.9 a Tighten nut 2 (see Figure 10.4) so as to increase the tension of the cable 4 in the holder 10 on the left side
10. Tighten locknut 1 (see illustration 10.4).
11. Install brake discs and pads.
12. Tighten the lever 1 of the parking brake on the 5th tooth of the sector (see illustration), then drive approximately 80 m at 20 km/h to burn in the brake pads.
10.12 Tighten the lever 1 of the parking brake on the 5th tooth of the sector
Attention! Starting with engine serial number 90883 598, Peugeot 605 vehicles are equipped with rear brake discs with an additional hole that allows you to adjust the parking brake pads without dismantling the disc. Therefore, the parking brake adjustment should be performed as follows:
13. Remove the rear wheels, release the parking brake.
14. Loosen the nut 1, thereby loosening the tension of the parking brake cables (see illustration).
10.14 Loosen the nut 1. thereby loosening the tension of the parking brake cables
15. Remove plug 2, which covers an additional hole on the brake disc (see illustration).
10.15 Remove plug 2, which covers the additional hole on the brake disc
16. Make sure that additional hole A is located opposite the adjusting gear of the expander bar (see illustration).
10.16 Make sure that the additional hole A is located against the adjusting gear of the expander bar
17. Turn the expansion bar adjustment gear with a flathead screwdriver to press the pads against the drum on the brake disc and lock the disc completely (see illustration).
10.17 Turn the expansion bar adjustment gear with a flathead screwdriver until the pads are pressed against the drum on the brake disc and the disc is fully locked
18. Turn the adjusting gear of the expander bar 6 teeth in the opposite direction and release the disc,
19. Install plug 2 in hole A using suitable pliers. Make sure that slot B of the plug is perpendicular to the center axis of the hole (see illustration).
10.19 Install plug 2 in hole A using suitable pliers. Make sure that slot B of the plug is perpendicular to the center axis of the hole
20. Tighten lever 3 of the parking brake on the second tooth of the sector (see illustration).
10.20 Tighten lever 3 of the parking brake on the second tooth of the sector
21. Make sure the adjusting nut on the cable equalizer 4 is tight and the parking brake cables 5 are properly tensioned (see illustration).
10.21 Check that the adjusting nut on the cable equalizer 4 is tight
22. Turn nut 6 until the rear discs (or wheels if not removed) will not rotate (see illustration).
10.22 Turn nut 6 until the rear discs turn
23. Tighten locknut 7 (see illustration 10.22).
24. Release the parking brake lever inside the vehicle.
25. Rotate the rear discs (or wheels if not removed): With the parking brake released, they should turn freely.
26. Make sure that the parking brake holds the car when the lever is tightened by 4-6 teeth of the sector. Otherwise, repeat the parking brake adjustment procedure.
