General information about the car (Peugeot J5)

The above-mentioned minibuses for transporting small quantities of goods have been manufactured with various types of engines since their production began in 1981/1982. This repair manual covers the following engines in one book:

Gasoline engines

• 1796 cm³
• 1971 cm³, 78 and 86 hp.

Diesel engines

• 2499 cm³, diesel and turbodiesel engines
• 1905 cm³ diesel engine

All petrol engines are related and are described together. Diesel engines vary greatly from one another. Only the two engines with the largest displacement have much in common. The 1.9 litre engine is fitted to Peugeot and Citroen vehicles and cannot be replaced by 1930 cc engines also fitted to these series and which are not covered in this publication. In addition, the diesel and turbodiesel engines with gear-driven valve timing mechanism installed at the very beginning of production are not described.

For the greatest clarity, this repair manual is divided into sections based on gasoline engines. Descriptions of diesel engines are given in separate sections.

Despite all the differences between different manufacturers and models, the description is not limited to a specific brand, but is produced neutrally, regardless of the model. It should not be forgotten that within each model series there may be differences, which, however, are not of particular importance during repair work.
