Gearbox — general information (Peugeot J5)

The vehicles described in this publication are equipped with either a four-speed or a five-speed gearbox. Over the years of model production, gearboxes have been repeatedly modified and further developed to improve their performance with various individual engine types, so it is not possible to consider all the options in detail here. In addition, all-wheel drive vehicles are equipped with a completely different gearbox, which has an output for the drive of the axle shafts at the rear. Figure 110 shows the drive of these vehicles.



During the operation of the car, there may be a need to replace the gearbox and a desire to install a used gearbox. To do this, it is important to know where the transmission identification number is located, as transmissions have different indexes depending on the type of engine they are designed to work with. In such cases, it is best to inquire about the type of box installed by the supplier, providing the vehicle's document details.
