1.8 liter models



Fuel injectors



1. Remove the ground wire from the battery.

2. Remove the air filter.

3. Unscrew the two bolts securing the wires to the top of the manifold.

4. Remove the electrical connectors from the injectors.

5. Unscrew the bolts and remove the injector mounting plates. Injectors 1 and 2 are mounted with one plate, and 3 and 4 with another.

6. Remove the injectors and replace the O-rings if necessary.

Throttle position potentiometer



The throttle position potentiometer is mounted on the right side of the throttle body.

1. Remove the ground wire from the battery.

2. Remove the electrical connector from the potentiometer.

3. Unscrew the two screws and remove the potentiometer.

Idle speed control motor



The idle speed is controlled by a motor located at the front of the throttle body.

1. Remove the ground wire from the battery.

2. Remove the electrical connector from the engine.

3. Unscrew the two screws and remove the engine from the throttle body.

Incoming air temperature sensor



The incoming air temperature sensor is located in the throttle body.

1. Remove the throttle position potentiometer.

2. Remove the electrical connector from the air temperature sensor.

3. Unscrew the sensor mounting screw and remove it.

Throttle body heating element



The throttle body heating element is attached to the top of the throttle body.

1. Remove the electrical connector from the heating element.

2. Unscrew the heating element mounting screw and remove it.



2.0 liter models



Fuel line and injectors



1. Remove the ground wire from the battery.

2. Remove the air filter.

3. Relieve pressure in the fuel system.

4. Remove the vacuum tube from the pressure regulator sensor and unscrew the regulator mounting bolt.

5. Release the clamps and remove the various hoses from the line.

6. Unscrew the fuel supply and return hoses.

7. Remove the electrical connectors from the injectors.

8. Unscrew the three bolts securing the fuel line and, lifting it upward, remove the line.

9. Remove the brackets securing the injectors to the line and take them out.

10. Check the condition of the O-rings and replace them if necessary.

11. Clean the injector tips using cleaning fluid.

Incoming air temperature sensor



The incoming air temperature sensor is located in the throttle body.

1. Remove the throttle position potentiometer.

2. Remove the electrical connector from the air temperature sensor.

3. Unscrew the sensor mounting screw and remove it.

Vehicle speed sensor



The vehicle speed sensor is an integral part of the speedometer drive.

Knock sensor



The knock sensor is screwed onto the rear of the cylinder block.
