The cooling system is filled at the factory with antifreeze, which must remain in the system throughout the year, since in addition to frost-resistant properties, it has additives that protect the cooling system in general from rapid corrosion or similar damage. If it is necessary to replace the mixture, it is recommended to fill in branded antifreezes from Peugeot, Citroen or Fiat, as they are specially selected for these engines. When using other products, you should obtain assurance from the supplier that they are suitable for these engines. When mixed, a mixture of 50% water and 50% antifreeze concentrate ensures engine operation within the range of actual outside temperatures. This mixture protects the system down to -30°C.
If the coolant level decreases during operation, remember that adding only water reduces the concentration of antifreeze. When the cold weather sets in, people often forget that water was added during the summer months. The coolant concentration can be checked at a petrol station or service station and adjusted if necessary. A device for testing coolant concentration is available for sale.
