Checking oil pressure (Peugeot J5)

To check the oil pressure on a running engine, if you have the appropriate adapter, you can screw a pressure gauge into the hole under the oil pressure switch on the underside of the oil filter (Figure 280). In this case, proceed as follows:

• Warm up the engine to operating temperature)°C.
• Check and, if necessary, adjust the engine oil level.
• Let the engine idle for 5 minutes until the radiator fan turns off.
• Turn off the engine, disconnect the wire from the oil pressure switch and unscrew the switch. The switch is located under the idle speed increase cable support.
• Screw in the adapter with the copper washer and connect the pressure gauge.
• Start the engine and let it idle. At these speeds (800 rpm) the pressure gauge reading should be 2.0 bar.
• Increase engine speed to 4000 rpm and check whether the oil pressure has increased to 3.5 bar.
• The above values apply to a new engine. If the engine has significant mileage, the oil pressure at the idle air clamp may be lower.
• Disconnect the pressure gauge and screw in the oil pressure switch with the copper gasket. Tighten the switch to a torque of 30 Nm.
