Ignition coil — removal and installation (Peugeot 405)

On early models, the ignition coil is mounted on the cylinder block above the starter or on the intake manifold. On later models, the ignition coil is mounted on the left end of the cylinder head.

Removal

1. Remove the ground wire from the battery.

2. Remove the ventilation hoses from the intake manifold housing and the air temperature control valve.



3. Remove the electrical connector from the capacitor mounted on the ignition coil.


4. Remove high voltage wires (drawing on the left) and connector (drawing on the right) from the ignition coil.




5. Unscrew two bolts (indicated by arrows) ignition coil mounts (on the right – ignition coil mount bolts on the Bosch L3.1 system).



6. Remove the ignition coil (in the picture – Motronic ignition system).
