2. Remove the ground wire from the battery.
3. Remove the protective waterproof cover from the ignition distributor.
4. Unscrew the distributor mounting screws and remove the cover.
5. If necessary, remove the high-voltage wires from the cover and spark plugs.
6. On 16-valve engines, the plate covering the spark plugs must be removed.
7. On engines with 8 valves, unscrew the distributor mounting screws and remove the distributor.
8. On XU9J4 16-valve engines, remove the three Torx bolts securing the rotor to the rotor drive flange and remove the rotor.
9. Unscrew the bolt from the center of the drive flange and remove the flange.
10. Remove the plastic support plate from the end of the cylinder head.
11. Remove the distributor cap on the XU9J4 engine with 16 valves (1, 2, 3 and 4 are the cylinder numbers).
