The balance shaft is mounted on the front cylinder head (see illustration 2.0).

1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal from the battery.

2. Unscrew the cylinder head cover mounting bolts and remove the cover.

3. Turn the engine clockwise until reference mark 1 on the camshaft sprocket aligns with mark 2 on the balance shaft sprocket (see illustration).

4. Unscrew plug 4 from the hole on the protective cover of the timing drive, which covers the camshaft sprocket mounting bolt (see illustration 2.3).



5. Release the tension of the balance shaft drive chain by compressing the tensioner spring with a suitable tool [1], such as 0164-F, which is used in specialist workshops (see illustration).

6. Using a socket head, unscrew bolt 5 securing the drive sprocket 6 of the balance shaft to the camshaft and remove it (see illustration 2.5).

7. Unscrew the mounting bolt and remove the sprocket from the balance shaft together with the chain (see illustration 2.5).

8. Check the ease of movement of the guide sprockets. If necessary, remove the snap rings holding the sprockets and replace the sprockets.

Attention! When dismantling the sprockets, it is recommended to cover the cavity of the timing drive with a clean rag to prevent the balance shaft drive parts from falling in there.
