The camshafts are driven by separate chains from the crankshaft drive sprocket.
A feature of the engine is the presence of a balance shaft, which reduces vibrations that are undesirable for the engine. The shaft is mounted above the camshaft on the front cylinder head and is driven by a separate chain from the camshaft sprocket.
Engine lubrication is provided by an oil pump located in the oil pan. The pump is driven by a separate chain from the sprocket on the crankshaft (see illustration 1.0a).

The intake and exhaust valves on all engines are actuated by the camshaft cams via hydraulic tappets, thanks to which the valve clearances are adjusted automatically and remain constant. For this reason, valve clearance adjustment is not required during vehicle maintenance.
