Caution! If the steering wheel is equipped with an airbag, all work must be performed in compliance with the prescribed safety requirements. We recommend that all work related to the removal and installation of the steering wheel and steering shaft be entrusted to professionals. This is primarily due to ensuring safety when operating the vehicle. In addition, replacing the steering shaft, if such a need arises, requires special care.
Removal
1. Place the front wheels in the straight position.
2. Remove the cover from the steering wheel to gain access to the nut that secures the wheel to the shaft.
3. Mark the position of the steering wheel on the shaft, then unscrew the steering wheel mounting nut and remove it from the shaft. If necessary, the steering wheel can be removed from the cone shaft by hitting it from below with your palms.
The steering wheel is installed in reverse order. The steering wheel mounting nut on the shaft is tightened to a torque of 33 Nm. The steering wheel itself should be held by hand to prevent it from turning. The steering column lock should not be used for these purposes.
