The installation of the steering mechanism is carried out in the reverse order of removal.

13. Check the condition of the steering gear cuffs and make sure that the clamps that secure them have not loosened or shifted.

14. Secure the ends to the tie rod by screwing them on with the same number of turns.

15. Adjust the steering wheel so that the wheels are straight.

16. Start and install the steering gear. Be careful not to displace the rack while doing this.

17. Screw in the steering gear mounting bolts and tighten them to a torque of 100 Nm.

18. Install and secure crosspiece 3 (see illustration 9.8). To do this, insert bolt 2 and screw a new nut 4 onto it. Tighten the nut to a torque of 20 Nm. Return lock I to its original position.

19. Secure the tie rod ends to the steering knuckles. In order for the tip support pins to sit well, there should be no grease or oil on them. Screw new self-locking nuts onto the pins with a torque of 40 Nm.

20. Install the front wheels and secure them.

21. Lower the car.

22. Check the front wheel alignment angles (see the relevant chapter). Due to the fact that the transverse steering rod was removed, the wheel alignment angle has changed and therefore it should be adjusted. Make sure the steering wheel is in the correct position. If the steering wheel has only one spoke, it should be pointing vertically downwards. If the position of the spoke is different, then the steering gear is not set to the middle position (neutral) position.

23. Connect the power steering lines and secure them in their original locations. Tighten the union nuts of the pipelines to a torque of 30 Nm (see illustration 9.10).

24. Top up the power steering fluid level and bleed the air from the power steering system (see the relevant chapter).

Repair

The steering mechanism cannot be repaired. If the mechanism is worn out or damaged, it should be replaced with a new one. You can contact the workshop and get a steering gear from the exchange fund. When ordering, please indicate the car model and year of manufacture. When installing a new steering gear, the transverse steering rod from the old gear is installed on it.
