13. Check up a condition of cuffs of the steering mechanism and be convinced that collars of their fastening have not weakened and have not displaced.
14. Fasten the tips on the tie rod by screwing them on with the same number of turns.
15. Install the steering wheel so that the wheels are straight.
16. Get and put into place the steering mechanism. Be careful not to move the rack when doing this.
17. Screw in bolts of fastening of the steering mechanism and tighten them with the moment of 100 Nanometers.
18. Replace and secure cross 3 (see illustration 9.8). To do this, insert bolt 2 and screw a new nut 4 onto it. Tighten the nut with a torque of 20 Nm. Set latch I to its original position.
19. Attach the tie rod ends to the steering knuckles. In order for the pins of the handpiece supports to sit well, they must be free of grease or oil. Screw new self-locking nuts onto the pins with a torque of 40 Nm.
20. Install the front wheels and secure them.
21. Lower the car.
22. Check the alignment of the front wheels (see relevant chapter). Due to the fact that the tie rod was removed, there was a change in the toe angle and therefore it should be corrected. Make sure the steering wheel is in the correct position. If the steering wheel has only one spoke, then it should be vertically down. If the spoke position is different, then the steering gear is not set to the middle (neutral) position.
23. Connect the power steering pipes and secure them in place. Tighten union nuts of pipelines with the moment of 30 Nm (see illustration 9.10).
24. Top up the power steering fluid level and bleed the air from the power steering (see relevant chapter).
Repair
The steering gear cannot be repaired. If the mechanism is worn or damaged, it should be replaced with a new one. You can contact the workshop and get the steering gear from the exchange fund. When ordering, please specify the vehicle model and year of manufacture. When installing a new steering mechanism, a tie rod is installed on it from the previous mechanism.
