To check the functioning of the valves, the condition of the piston rings, as well as the cylinders as a whole, it is necessary to perform a compression pressure test on each cylinder. To perform the check, the engine must be warmed up to operating temperature.
1. Turn out spark plugs.
2. Open throttle.
3. Install the output of the compression gauge in the spark plug hole of the first cylinder.
4. Ask the assistant to fully squeeze out the accelerator pedal and start the starter.
5. Turn the engine over until the arrow on the compression gauge shows maximum pressure.
Repeat the same operation with all cylinders.
It is believed that the pressure on all cylinders should not be less than 80% of the pressure that the best working cylinder has. Low, uneven compression may be the result of worn piston rings. Piston ring wear can also be determined by increased engine oil consumption.
