- A) On vehicles with central locking («central lock») Before disconnecting the battery, remove the key from the ignition and keep it with you. Otherwise, if the car locks accidentally when the battery is connected, the ignition key will remain locked in the car.
- b) Many of the models described in this manual are equipped with a Peugeot/Citroen anti-theft alarm system. If the battery is connected after disconnection, an alarm may automatically sound. In this case, turn off the alarm using the remote control or manually by turning on the ignition. To fully activate the system after connecting the battery, lock and then unlock the vehicle using the remote control: the anti-theft alarm system will be reactivated the next time the vehicle is locked using the remote control.
- V) If an audio unit with an anti-theft system with an input code is installed and the audio unit and/or battery is disconnected. the audio system will not work until then. until the correct entry code is entered. The details of this procedure, which varies depending on the installed audio unit and vehicle variant, are described in the owner's manual supplied with the vehicle documentation. If necessary, make sure you know the correct code before disconnecting the battery. If you do not know the code or do not have a description of the correct procedure, but you can provide proof of vehicle ownership and a legitimate reason for obtaining this information, a Peugeot/Citroen dealer can provide qualified assistance.
- G) On all petrol engines, later 1.9L diesel engines and all 2.0L diesel engines, the ECM has the function «self-learning». This means that during operation it monitors the operating parameters of the engine and saves settings that provide optimum engine dynamics under all operating conditions. When the battery is disconnected, these settings are lost and the BEU returns to the basic settings programmed at the factory. At the next start, this can lead to uneven engine operation, including idling, for a short time until the ECU is not «study» optimal settings. A road test of the vehicle is recommended for data collection (within approximately 15 minutes) covering the entire range of engine speeds and loads, focusing mainly on the 2500-3500 rpm range.
- d) On all models, when connecting the battery after disconnecting it, turn on the ignition and wait 10 seconds to complete the stabilization and initialization procedure for the vehicle's electronic systems.
To avoid some of the aforementioned problems, you can use uninterruptible power supplies, known by names such as «memory storage devices» or «input code storage devices». How to use them varies depending on the type of device you are using. As a rule, such a device is connected to the cigarette lighter socket and is connected by its own wiring to the backup battery. The vehicle's battery is then disconnected from the electrical system and the memory saver supplies enough current to store the audio unit's input code and other values in memory, as well as allowing electrical circuits that are constantly energized to operate (like a watch), while isolating the battery in the event of a short circuit while performing maintenance.
Attention! Some of these devices allow a significant amount of current to flow, which can result in the continued operation of many vehicle systems even when the standard battery is disconnected. If used «storage device», before doing any work on the problematic circuit, make sure that it is not actually energized!
