Airbag electronic control device
The electronic airbag control unit is integrated with the steering wheel and can only be removed with the steering wheel.
Airbag
The airbag is an integral part of the steering wheel.
Removing
1. Before performing any action on the security system, remove the negative terminal from the battery and wait at least 10 minutes.
2. Unscrew two screws (indicated by arrows) airbag mounts located at the rear of the steering wheel. Turn the steering wheel to access the screws.
3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the airbag.
Installation
1. Installation is made in sequence, return to removal. In doing so, the following points must be taken into account.
2. Do not hit the airbag or subject it to collisions during reassembly.
3. Tighten the airbag mounting screws to the specified torque.
4. Finally, activate the airbag system by following the steps below.
5. Close the car doors, while there should be no people in the car.
6. Turn on the ignition.
7. Connect ground wire to battery.
8. Switch off the ignition.
9. Restart the ignition and check that the steering wheel airbag warning light illuminates for three seconds and then goes out.
10. Turn on the ignition.
Swivel Airbag Connector
1 - swivel connector, 2 - electrical connector, 3 - brackets for fastening the swivel connector
Removing
1. Remove airbag.
2. Remove steering wheel.
3. Unscrew the mounting screws and remove the lower casing of the steering column.
4. Remove the upper steering column cover.
5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the swivel connector.
6. Using a screwdriver, release the three mounting brackets and remove the swivel connector.
Installation
1. Installation is made in sequence, return to removal. In doing so, the following points must be taken into account.
2. Before reinstalling the steering column and airbag covers, check that the wiring harness is routed correctly and, by moving the steering wheel, that the wiring does not cling to anything.
3. Install steering wheel.
4. Install the airbag, but do not activate the airbag at this stage.
5. Finally, move the steering column to the raised position, then check that the clearance between the rear of the steering wheel and the steering column shrouds is 8.0 mm. If the clearance is not as specified, perform the following steps.
6. Loosen the carpet near the pedals to access the steering column pinch bolt.
7. Loosen the pinch bolt and move the steering shaft until the clearance between the rear of the steering wheel and the steering column covers is 8.0 mm.
8. Tighten the pinch bolt and reinstall the carpet.
9. Activate the airbag.
