Disconnecting the electrical connector from the airbag control unit
Vehicles equipped with a driver's side airbag have the word "AIRBAG" on the center of the steering wheel. If there is an airbag on the front passenger side, there is a word on the top of the instrument panel "AIRBAG". The security system includes an airbag with gas generators, a control unit with a collision sensor and warning lights in the instrument panel. Each time the ignition is switched on, the security system performs a self-diagnosis. It is carried out within 6 seconds. At this time, the safety warning lamp on the instrument cluster is on.
Remove the negative battery terminal and wait at least 2 minutes before performing any action on the security system. Remove the center console and disconnect the main electrical connector from the security control unit. After completing the work, connect the electrical connector to the security system unit and install the center console. Check that no one is inside the car, connect the battery and turn on the ignition through the open driver's door from outside the car.
Attention! The airbag must not be exposed to temperatures above 100°C.
Attention! Do not allow solvents or cleaning agents to come into contact with the airbag.
Attention! Disconnect the wire contact of the control unit from the airbag when carrying out electric welding work on the car.
