The cruise control system is vacuum controlled. The main components of the system are the electronic control unit (ECU), vacuum pump, solenoid valve, actuator and cable. The system is controlled by a switch on the steering column and switches on the brake and clutch pedals.

Electronic Control Unit (ECU)



1. The ECU is located in the rear of the glove box. Remove the negative terminal from the battery.

2. Remove the hinge pins and remove the glove box cover from the instrument panel. Remove the screw and remove the cover from the instrument panel to access the ECU.

3. Remove the clips and the lower instrument panel cover on the passenger side.

4. Disconnect the electrical connector, unscrew the mounting screws and remove the ECU unit from the bottom of the instrument panel.

Vacuum pump



5. The vacuum pump is located in the engine compartment. Remove the negative terminal from the battery.

6. Disconnect the electrical connector and vacuum hose from the pump. Remove the screws and remove the pump from the bracket.

Solenoid valve



7. The solenoid valve is located on the vacuum pump mounting bracket.

8. Remove the negative battery terminal, electrical connector and vacuum hose from the solenoid valve.

9. Remove the screws and remove the solenoid valve from the bracket in the engine compartment.

Actuator and cable



10. Remove the cable from the throttle cam ball joint. Remove the mounting bracket and pull the cable housing out of the bracket.



11. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the actuator, unscrew the nut and remove the actuator and cable from the engine compartment.

12. If necessary, remove the cable sheath mounting bracket and separate the cable from the actuator.

13. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
