3.06 Mitsubishi Starter

3 - overrunning clutch
4 - anchor
5 - clutch shaft with gears for reducing the gear ratio
6 - brush holder

When voltage is applied, the traction relay extends the pinion, which moves freely along the helical splines on the anchor shaft and engages with the flywheel ring gear. As soon as the engine starts and begins to rotate at a higher speed than the starter, the pinion disengages from the flywheel.

When replacing the starter, it is recommended to follow the manufacturer's instructions.

The starter can be tested without removing it. To do this, connect the wires from terminals 30 and 50 and connect it to the battery with auxiliary wires. If the starter works perfectly in this case, then the second step is to check the power wires leading to the starter. If the starter does not work, then it should be dismantled and tested on a stand.

The starter should be tested on a stand in an electrical equipment repair shop. During such a test it will be possible to determine whether the starter can be repaired or whether it should be replaced with a new one.

1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

2. Unscrew the bolts, remove the heat reflector shield 1 and disconnect the wires 2 (see illustration).

3.2 Unscrew the bolts, remove the heat shield 1 and disconnect the wires 2. Cars with engine ES9J4

3. Unscrew the three bolts that secure the starter 3 and remove it (see illustration).

The starter is installed in the reverse order of its removal.

Replacing the traction relay

4. Disconnect the wire from the lower terminal.

5. Unscrew the bolts that secure the traction relay to the starter housing and disconnect it from the retractor clutch.

6. Install the new traction relay in reverse order.

Replacing carbon brushes

7. Unscrew the bolts securing the rear cover of the starter.

8. Remove the springs and unscrew the brush mounting screws or unsolder the brushes.

9. Install new brushes.

Warning! If you hear only clicks when you turn on the starter, then most likely the terminal on the negative pole of the battery has become loose. Check the terminal and the connection to the "ground" (-).
