When replacing the starter, it is recommended to follow the manufacturer's instructions.
To test the starter from the battery, connect terminals 30 (large Bosch starter terminal) and 50 (ledge to the right of the large terminal) wire with a cross section of at least 4.0 mm2.
If the starter in this case works flawlessly, then as a second step you need to check the power wires leading to the starter. If the starter does not work, then it should be dismantled and checked at the stand.
Checking the starter on the stand should be carried out in a workshop for the repair of electrical equipment. During such an inspection, it will be possible to determine whether the starter needs to be repaired or whether it should be replaced with a new one.
Removal and installation
1. Disconnect the wire terminal «masses» (-) from the battery. Install in front of the car on the goats.
3. Disconnect wires from the traction relay and a starter.
4. Turn away nuts of fastening of a starter and take a starter.
The starter is installed in the reverse order of removal. The starter must first be securely fastened to the mounting flange on the clutch housing and only then both bolts must be tightened.
5. Check the performance of the starter by connecting the wire terminal «masses» (-) to the battery.
Attention! Arbitrary replacement of the starter is not allowed. The type of starter is determined by the type of engine fitted to the engine and in case of replacement of the starter it is advisable to consult a workshop.
Repair
To avoid car downtime due to a faulty starter, if such a service is provided, you can return a faulty starter in exchange for a repaired one. As a rule, a repaired starter is given an appropriate warranty. Of course, you can repair the starter on your own.
Replacing the traction relay
6. Disconnect the wire from the bottom terminal.
7. Turn out bolts with a spline head by which the traction relay fastens on the case of a starter, and disconnect from the retracting coupling.
8. Install a new traction relay, proceeding in reverse order.
Replacement of carbon brushes
8. Turn out bolts of fastening of a back cover of a starter.
9. Remove the springs and unscrew the screws securing the brushes, or unsolder the brushes.
10. Install new brushes.
Attention! If only clicks are heard when the starter is turned on, then the terminal on the negative pole of the battery has most likely loosened. Check the terminal, as well as the connection on «mass» (-).
