1. Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.
2. In order to improve access to the starter, remove the air cleaner as well as the intake manifold (if you can't get to the starter terminals) (see chapter FOR).
3. Unscrew and remove the nut that secures the thick power wire to the solenoid terminal. Remove this wire, as well as the thinner positive wire installed with it. Unscrew and remove the small nut securing the wire from the ignition switch to the solenoid terminal, and remove the wire. Do not touch the nut on the remaining terminal (starter power supply).
4. Unscrew and remove the 3 bolts securing the starter to the clutch housing and carefully remove the starter (see photo). Be careful not to damage the flywheel ring gear.
5. The starter is installed in the reverse order. Tighten the fixing bolts to the correct torque.
