2. To improve access to the starter, remove the air cleaner and intake manifold (if you can't get to the starter terminals) (see chapter ZA).
3. Unscrew and remove the nut securing the thick supply wire to the solenoid terminal. Remove this wire, as well as the thinner positive wire installed along with it. Unscrew and remove the small nut that secures the wire from the ignition switch to the solenoid terminal, and remove the wire. Do not touch the nut on the remaining terminal (starter power supply).

4. Loosen and remove the 3 bolts securing the starter to the clutch housing and carefully remove the starter (see photo). Be careful not to damage the flywheel ring gear.

5. The starter is installed in reverse order. Tighten the mounting bolts to the specified torque.
