Replacing brushes on a generator with a built-in voltage regulator (Peugeot 305)

1. Given the large number of different types of generators used, a specific procedure for each of them is not given. The instructions below are for the Paris-Rhone 750W generator (for other generators by analogy, taking into account the differences).

2. Remove the generator from the car.

3. Remove the rear cover of the generator (see photo).



4. Remove the 2 screws securing the brush holder/voltage regulator assembly. Disconnect the regulator wire from the spade terminal and pull out the unit (see photos).


5. Unsolder the old brushes and solder new ones in their place.



6. Clean the contact rings with a cloth soaked in solvent and inspect them for excessive wear and damage that could lead to premature brush failure. Replace the brush holder/voltage regulator assembly and secure it with screws. Replace the generator rear cover. Install the generator on the car.
