2. Disconnect wire harnesses 1 and 2 (see illustration).

3. Disconnect the plugs 3 (see illustration 4.2).
4. Remove the rear heat shield.
5. Disconnect hoses 4 (see illustration 4.2).
6. Remove the timing belt of the gas distribution mechanism drive (see the relevant chapter).
7. Install the right upper engine mount.
8. Remove the stops that were used to lock the camshafts.
9. Lock the camshaft hubs using a special key "a", catalog number 0187-F (om. illustrations 4.9 and 2.13a), then unscrew the central bolts securing the gears to the shafts.

10. Remove the camshaft gears together with the hubs 5 (see illustration 4.9).
11. Unscrew the upper bolts securing the rear timing cover.
12. Remove the camshaft oil seals.
13. Remove bracket 6 (see illustration).

14. Remove the ignition coil block 7 (see illustration 4.13).
15. Remove the holders 8 from the cylinder head side 4-5-6 (see illustration).

16. Loosen and then remove the cylinder head cover bolts in a spiral pattern, starting with the outer bolt.
17. Remove the cylinder head covers 9 (see illustration 4.15).
18. Gradually loosen the camshaft bearing housing bolts 10, working in a spiral motion, starting with the outer bolt. The bolt heads should be a few millimetres above the surface (see illustration).

19. Loosen the camshafts by gently tapping them with a hammer.
20. Remove the camshaft bearing housings 10, and then the shafts themselves 11 (see illustration 4.18).
21. If the tappets are to be removed, mark them first so that you can then install each one in its proper place.
22. Remove the pushers using a suction cup (see illustration).

Caution: Store hydraulic tappets upside down, otherwise oil will leak out.
