Replacing the steering shaft (Peugeot J5)

The steering shaft can be replaced without removing the steering gear. First, disconnect the crosspiece from the top side (Figure 122), unscrew the tie bolts and pull the steering column upwards, holding the steering wheel.

After this, separate the lower crosspiece from the steering gear. To access the crosspiece, remove the cover under the pedals. After this, you can pull the shaft upward.

The shaft is installed in reverse order. To set the steering control exactly to the center position, remove the cuff mounting clamp on the left side and pull the cuff. After this, move the rack so that the dimension shown in figure 126, was exactly 76.0 mm. After this, re-fasten the cuff.

Tighten the tie bolts on the top and bottom to a torque of 25 Nm. Secure the rubber seal securely when installing the cover in the floor.
