- Warm up the engine to an operating temperature of 90°C.
- Check and, if necessary, adjust the engine oil level.
- Let the engine idle for 5 minutes until the radiator fan turns off.
- Turn off the engine, disconnect the wire from the oil pressure switch and unscrew the switch. As mentioned, the switch is located on the underside of the oil filter, to the right of the alternator under the large water hose.
- Screw in the adapter with the copper washer and connect the pressure gauge.
- Start the engine and let it idle. At these speeds (800 rpm) the pressure gauge reading should be 2.7 bar.
- Increase engine speed to 2000 rpm and check whether the oil pressure has increased to 3.3 bar.
- Increase engine speed again, this time to 4000 rpm. Oil pressure should be 3.8 bar. A tolerance of ±0.7 bar is acceptable.
Note: If you have a pressure gauge calibrated in kg/cm² or kP/cm², you can take the values in kg/cm² or kP/cm² as equal to the values expressed in bar.
The above values apply to a new engine. If the engine has significant mileage, the oil pressure in idle mode may be lower, but should not deviate from the lower limit by more than 0.2 - 0.4 bar.
- Disconnect the pressure gauge and screw in the oil pressure switch with the copper gasket. Tighten the switch to a torque of 22 Nm.
After screwing in the switch, start the engine again and let it run for a while. After this, check for oil leaks in the area of the oil pressure switch.
