If the starter is suspected of being faulty, it should be removed from the vehicle and taken to an automotive electrician for inspection. Most automotive electricians can supply new brushes and install them for a reasonable cost. However, before proceeding, consider the cost of repairs, as it may be cheaper to purchase a new or refurbished starter on a trade-in basis.
