Note. An appropriate square head wrench may be required to unscrew the filler/level plug and transmission drain plug on some variants. These wrenches are available from many auto parts stores or your Peugeot/Citroen dealer.
1. This procedure can be performed much faster and more efficiently after a long trip, as the engine and transmission will be warmed up to normal operating temperature.
2. Park the vehicle on level ground, turn off the ignition and fully apply the parking brake. Raise the front of the vehicle and securely jack it up for easier access (see «Lifting and placing the car on supports»). The main thing for ensuring accuracy when refueling and checking the oil level is that the car is located horizontally. Turn out screws and remove the bottom protection of the engine/transmission (in the presence of).
3. Remove engine protection (if applicable) and left front wheel. Remove the plastic wheel arch locker as described in chapter 11.
4. Clean the area around the filler/inspection plug located on the left wall of the gearbox housing, next to the end cover, of dirt. Unscrew the plug and remove the sealing washer from it (pic. 2.4, a, b).

5. Place a suitable container under the drain plug, which is located on the back of the gearbox housing, and remove the drain plug. On MA5 gearboxes, the plug is located on the left side of the differential housing, and on VEZ / 5 and BE4 / 5 gearboxes it is located on the base of the differential housing (pic. 2.5, a, b).

6. Allow the oil to drain into a container. If the oil is hot, be careful not to scald yourself. Clear both plugs. Be careful to remove all metal particles from the magnetic inserts. Discard the sealing washers; they should be replaced each time the plug is unscrewed.
7. After all the oil has drained, clean the drain plug threads and the threaded hole in the gearbox housing. Place a new sealing washer on the plug and screw the latter into place, tightening to the specified torque.
8. Slowly fill the transmission through the filler/inspection port, adding oil until it seeps out of the port. Use only good quality oil of the prescribed brand (see «Lubricants and operating fluids»). To ensure that the correct oil level is reached, wait until the initial trickle of oil has dried up and the oil level in the transmission has stabilized. Add a little more oil until a new trickle appears. The level is considered correct when the flow of a new trickle stops.
9. When the level is found to be correct, install a new sealing washer on the filler/level plug, screw in the plug and tighten it to the specified torque.
10. Install the wheel arch locker, engine protection (if applicable) and wheel. Lower the car. Tighten the wheel bolts to the specified torque.
