Removal

1294 cc models

1. Slacken the retaining clip and disconnect the throttle housing duct from the air cleaner housing (see illustration). Where a crimped-type hose clip or tie is fitted, cut and discard it; replace it with a standard worm-drive hose clip or new cable tie (as applicable) on refitting.

2. Slacken and remove the air cleaner housing retaining nuts and bolts and lift the housing out of the engine compartment.

3. Slacken the retaining clips (where fitted) and disconnect the vacuum and breather hoses from the top of the air cleaner housing. Where crimped-type hose clips or ties are fitted, cut and discard them; replace them with standard worm-drive hose clips or new cable ties when refitting.

4. Slacken the retaining clips or ties and free the throttle housing duct from the top of the air cleaner housing. Also remove the inlet duct from the side of the housing. If necessary, free the duct from the throttle housing and remove it, along with its sealing ring.

5. Lift the air cleaner housing assembly out of the engine compartment.

6. To remove the inlet duct assembly, drill out the rivets securing the duct to the crossmember, then release the fastener securing the rear of the duct to the cylinder head and remove the duct and hose assembly from the engine compartment.

Refitting

7. Refitting is a reversal of the removal procedure.

1124, 1360 and 1587 cc models

8. Refitting is a reversal of the removal procedure. Ensure that all hoses are properly reconnected and that all ducts are correctly seated and securely held by their retaining clips. Also note the following:
  • a) Ensure that the air cleaner housing locating peg is correctly engaged with its mounting on the top of the transmission.
  • b) If the inlet duct was removed, secure it to the crossmember with new pop-rivets.
