Inspect the CV joint rubber mudguards by squeezing them with your hand. Check them for cracks, which can lead to lubricant leakage and water and dirt ingress. Check the condition of the fastening clamps, inspect the covers of the internal hinges and casings on the other side. Replace damaged protective cover immediately.
Check the general condition of the CV joints: having fixed the shaft, try to turn the wheel. Try again, holding the inner CV joint and rotating the shaft. Any noticeable play indicates wear on the pivot or loosening of the shaft lock nut.
