Generator (A - Bosch, B - Mitsubishi, C - Valeo)
1 - pulley, 2 - fan, 3 - front housing, 4 - bearing, 5 - rotor, 6 - stator, 7 - brush holder-regulator, 8 - rear housing, 9 - rectifier unit
Removing the generator
1 - belt tensioner bolt, 2 - fastening bolt, 3 - connections
Removing
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Loosen the fastening elements of the generator to its holders.
3. Loosen the V-belt tensioner.
4. Remove V-belt.
5. Disconnect the electrical connections from the generator.
6. Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the generator.
Installation
1. Install the generator in place and tighten the mounting bolts not to the stop.
2. Put on the V-belt.
3. Tighten the belt until the required tension is obtained.
4. Screw in the fasteners.
5. Connect electrical connections.
6. Connect battery.
Alternator Belt Tension Adjustment
1. Loosen the fastening elements of the generator.
2. Using the tensioner bolt, adjust the belt tension to the desired value.
3. Screw in the fasteners and check the tension adjustment.
Attention! To adjust the tension of the belt, we recommend, first of all, the Krikit tool (Peugeot designation).
Generator repair
The steps for disassembling and assembling the generator are not difficult.
1. During the mechanical repair of the generator, the following steps should be taken.
2. Assess the condition of the brushes, their degree of wear, position, and pressure on the slip rings.
3. Assess the condition of the slip rings, which should be cleaned only with a piece of material soaked in gasoline or trichlorethylene and polished with fine sandpaper; emery cloth should never be used.
4. Assess the condition of bearings that do not require any maintenance; bearings are lubricated for the entire period of operation.
5. Assess the condition of the rotor and stator, the windings of which should not have breaks and burnout traces.
Attention! When checking the electrical parameters of the generator, and especially the rectifier, the equipment used should not produce a voltage greater than 14 V (this threatens to damage some elements of the generator).
Attention! Rectifier diodes are sensitive to temperature, and therefore, when replacing them, soldering should be done quickly and with a low power soldering iron.
