Ignition switch with steering wheel lock
Two identical keys supplied with the vehicle (for ignition switch, front doors, trunk lid and in some versions for glove box) have a number. This number is worth writing down (in case of loss of keys, this will facilitate the search for their duplicates).
The key can take the following positions:
- S (stop) - steering wheel lock, power outage. To lock the steering wheel, you need to get the key and turn the steering wheel until it locks (characteristic click). To unlock the steering wheel, insert the key and turn it clockwise while turning the steering wheel lightly to the right and left;
- A (appliances) - supply voltage is applied to the devices, the ignition is on;
- M (Job) - working position and preheating position of the glow plugs;
- D (launch) - after starting the engine, it is necessary to release the pressure on the key.
Steps to start the engine
Pilot lamps
1. Make sure the shift lever is in neutral.
2. Turn the key in the ignition switch to position M. The control lamps will immediately light up: glow plug preheating (1), STOP, handbrake, coolant temperature, engine oil pressure and battery charging (see fig. Pilot lamps).
3. Wait until the glow plug preheat indicator light goes out.
4. Turn the key to position D to engage the starter and hold in this position until the engine starts. In winter, when the ambient temperature drops below 0°C, it is necessary to press the clutch pedal while the starter is running. After the engine starts, gradually release the clutch pedal.
5. The control lights should go out.
6. Before starting the movement, the engine should idle for several minutes (do not drastically increase the number of revolutions).
Attention! At temperatures below -5°C, it may be difficult to start the engine due to the solidification of paraffin, which is part of diesel fuel.
7. To avoid such problems, it is recommended to use a special diesel fuel additive that prevents freezing (such an additive is available in the distribution network of the company). It should be used in the following proportions:
- at temperatures down to -10°C: 0.1% or 30 cm3 additives for 30 dm3 diesel fuel;
- at temperatures down to -15°C: 0.2% or 60 cm3 additives for 30 dm3 diesel fuel;
- below -15°C: 0.5% or 150 cm3 additives (this is the maximum dose and should not be used more) by 30 cm3 diesel fuel.
8. To obtain a homogeneous consistency, the additive must be poured into the fuel tank before refueling with diesel fuel. During engine operation, a special device that heats up the fuel filter (via coolant circulation with thermostatic control), avoids the described problem that occurs at low ambient temperatures.
9. If the engine does not start, turn on the preheat again.
Attention! If the engine (cold or warm) did not start the first time, you should wait a few seconds and try again.
Attention! Never run the engine indoors - exhaust fumes are very toxic.
Engine stop
In case of damage to the electrical wiring, the engine can be stopped manually by pressing the lever "stop" on the fuel pump.
