1. Check that the battery is well charged, there is fuel in the tank, and the level of coolant and oil in the crankcase reaches the desired level.
2. When starting for the first time, it will be necessary to turn the engine over with the starter several times in order for the pump to pump fuel into the carburetor.
3. After the engine starts, run it at fast idle to normal operating temperature, which will turn on the fan.
4. As the engine warms up, there may be strange odors and smoke from the burnout of lubricants used during installation. Inspect the engine for water or oil leaks. Inspect also the junction of the exhaust pipe with the manifold, as you will most likely need to tighten the bolts (performed after the engine has been switched off).
5. If necessary, you can pre-adjust the idle, but the final adjustment will be made later, with the air cleaner already installed.
6. After you achieve normal engine operation (no leaks, burning signal lamps, etc.), press the gas pedal and increase the engine speed without overloading it.
7. Stop the engine and inspect it again for leaks. After the engine has cooled down sufficiently, retighten the nuts at the connection of the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold.
8. Wait at least 2 hours for the engine to cool completely, remove the valve cover and retighten the cylinder head bolts as indicated in section 9, paragraph 20. Then adjust the valve clearances again (see section 39). Install valve cover and air cleaner (see chapter 3). Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt again to the correct torque. Install the hood cover, using the marks made when it was removed, and add oil and coolant to the correct level.
9. Start the engine again and adjust the idle if necessary. Carry out a test drive to check for correct ignition adjustment and engine operation. Do not overload the motor - when installing new bearings and (or) pistons, treat the engine as if it were new and drive at a reduced speed, avoiding hard acceleration and tight driving.
10. After the first 1500-2500 km of run, it is necessary to retighten the cylinder head bolts again and adjust the valve clearances.
