Air filter replacement (40,000 km/2 years) (Peugeot 405)

Please note: On models since 1994, the specified interval for this procedure is 60,000 km.

TU models

1. Remove the clamps and disconnect the vacuum hose and crankcase ventilation hose (indicated by arrows) in the front of the air filter.


2. The air filter cover is located on the left side of the engine compartment (drawing on the left). Remove the brackets from the air filter cover (drawing on the right).





3. Remove the tube from the air filter housing.



4. Remove the air filter cover.

5. Remove the air filter element from the housing.

6. Install the new element into the casing.

7. Install the air filter cover, secure with clamps and connect the previously removed hoses.

XU models (except XU10J4) with side mounted air filter

1. Remove the air duct from the filter housing.



2. Remove the brackets and air filter cover.



3. Remove the air filter element from the housing.

4. Install the new element into the casing.

5. Install the air filter cover.

XU models (except XU10J4) with top mounted air filter

1. Remove the air duct mounting clamp (fastening elements are indicated by arrows).



2. Loosen the retaining clip and disconnect the tube from the inlet on the rear of the cylinder head.



3. Unscrew the two screws located on the front side of the cylinder head cover, remove the cover and remove the filter.



4. Remove the filter cover.



5. Remove the filter element.

6. Install the new filter element, retaining bracket, cover and connect the hose.

XU10J4 16 valve models

1. Disconnect the air duct and remove the cover from the air filter.

2. Remove the air filter element.

3. Install new item.

4. Install the cover and air duct.

Diesel engines

The air filter should be changed every 45,000 km or every 30,000 km if the vehicle is driven on dusty roads or in areas with severe air pollution.



You should unfasten the lid and then remove the filter.
