How does motor oil work?
Reducing friction
Without oil, the internal surfaces will heat up and melt due to friction, and this will lead to the engine seizing very quickly. Oil forms a molecular barrier between moving parts that reduces friction, preventing wear and minimizing heat generation.
Cooling hot spots
Temperatures inside the engine can exceed 1000°C. Circulating engine oil acts as a coolant, removing heat from hot spots and transporting it to the oil pan.
Cleaning the internal surfaces of the engine
High-quality oil washes away combustion products (mainly carbon deposits) from the internal engine components, transports them to the oil filter and holds the smallest particles in suspension until they are washed away during an oil change.
Handling oil
For safe handling of oil and disposal of used oil, always:
- Avoid getting used engine oil on your skin. Repeated or repeated contact may be harmful to your health.
- Dispose of used oil and empty oil containers only in designated areas. Find out where your nearest used petroleum product collection point is. Pouring oil onto the ground or down the drain is illegal and immoral.
