Removal
1. On some models, remove the air supply tube to the air filter to improve access.
2. Remove the cap from the brake master cylinder reservoir, remove the filter and pump out the fluid from the reservoir. Disconnect the electrical connector from the brake fluid level sensor.
3. Remove the mounting bracket and remove the mounting pin from the brake fluid reservoir. Remove the reservoir from the master brake cylinder and remove the sealing rings from the master brake cylinder windows. If the sealing rings are defective, they must be replaced.
4. Clean dirt from the brake pipe connections to the master cylinder, place a rag under the connections to collect any leaked brake fluid. Unscrew the nuts securing the brake pipes to the master cylinder.
5. Unscrew the 2 nuts securing the master brake cylinder to the brake booster. Remove the master brake cylinder from the engine compartment.
Repair
Repair of the master brake cylinder can only be carried out if a repair kit of parts is available.
When repairing the brake master cylinder, pay attention to the location of all components so that you can reinstall them in their proper places.
When assembling the master cylinder, lubricate all parts and sealing rings with clean brake fluid.
Repair the master brake cylinder in accordance with the instructions included with the repair kit.
Installation
1. Before installing the brake master cylinder in place, check the distance from the end of the vacuum booster pushrod to the mating surface of the brake master cylinder, which should be 22.3±0.1 mm.
2. Remove all traces of dirt from the mating surfaces of the master cylinder and brake booster and check that the O-ring is properly installed in the rear of the master cylinder.
3. Install the brake master cylinder onto the vacuum booster so that the vacuum booster pushrod enters the master cylinder hole exactly in the center. Screw the brake cylinder mounting nuts onto the vacuum booster and tighten them to the specified torque.
4. Clean the brake pipe couplings and install them into the brake master cylinder. Tighten the coupling nuts to the specified torque.
5. Install the sealing rings into the master cylinder windows and install the brake fluid reservoir onto the brake cylinder. Secure the reservoir with the pin and mounting bracket.
6. Fill the reservoir with new brake fluid and bleed the brake system.
