Gearbox oil change (Peugeot 406)

1. Take the vehicle for a short drive to bring the transmission up to operating temperature.

2. Place the vehicle on a lift or over an inspection pit.

3. Remove the oil level indicator, then place a suitable container under the transmission drain plug. The drain plug is located in the center of the transmission case.

4. Unscrew the drain plug and drain the oil from the gearbox. Note that only about 3 liters of oil are drained, as it is impossible to completely drain the oil from the torque converter. Clean the drain plug and remove the sealing washer from the plug.

5. Place the sealing washer on the plug and screw the plug into place.

6. Fill the gearbox with oil through the oil level dipstick tube.

7. While adding oil, constantly monitor the oil level. When the level reaches the "MAX" mark on the level gauge, stop adding oil. Run the engine in idle mode for a few minutes. Turn off the engine and check the oil level, add oil if necessary. Take a test drive and recheck the oil level.
