The rear suspension is independent, with transverse and longitudinal arms, telescopic shock absorbers and an anti-roll bar.
The main elements of the front suspension of Peugeot 605 cars are shock absorbers, wishbones, anti-roll bar, steering knuckles, on which the wheel hubs are mounted.
McPherson struts (McPherson shock absorber struts) consist of a coiled cylindrical spring and a telescopic hydraulic shock absorber. The struts are attached to the body mudguards and steering knuckles and provide suspension damping and vibration damping when the vehicle is in motion. The lower part of the steering knuckles is connected to the cross arms by a ball bearing. The knuckles are moved to the left or right by the transverse steering rods, which give the knuckles a rotational movement of the steering wheel.
The transverse levers are connected with silent blocks to the transverse beam. Together with the shock absorber struts, they receive and dampen vibration oscillations of the front suspension.
To reduce the lateral roll of the car, especially when turning, a lateral stability stabilizer is installed. The stabilizer bar is attached to the body with brackets, rubber pads and clamps, and its struts are attached to the shock absorber strut and to the subframe.
The suspension of cars with adjustable ground clearance, shock absorber stiffness, etc., is controlled by the corresponding control unit. In this case, the shock absorber struts are somewhat different from the struts of the usual type.
Attention! Welding and straightening work on the load-bearing and guide elements of the front axle is prohibited. When carrying out repair work, always replace self-locking nuts, as well as rusted bolts and nuts with new ones.
