The toothed belt drives the camshaft, high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) and water pump.
The crankshaft rotates in the cylinder block in five main bearings. Thrust half rings installed on one of the support bearings are designed to adjust the crankshaft runout.
The engines in question use a cross-flow design, in which air enters the cylinders on one side of the engine and exhaust gases are removed on the other. This engine design significantly improves cylinder filling and combustion product removal.
