The fuel injection system consists of an intake manifold, an air filter, a fuel rail and fuel injectors. In addition, the system should include an adsorber with a purge valve and a crankcase ventilation valve, the vapors of which are also discharged into the engine. Fuel vapors formed in the fuel tank are captured by the activated charcoal of the adsorber. The valve, which connects the adsorber to the fuel tank, is constantly open when the engine is not running. When the ignition is turned on, the valve closes. When the engine is running, the valve opens in accordance with the "requirements" of the electronic control unit, i.e. when the conditions set in the control unit's operating program occur. When the valve opens, the fuel vapors held in the adsorber are supplied to the intake manifold.

The injection is controlled by a microprocessor (engine control unit)

The electronic engine control unit regulates the volume of fuel supplied and controls the ignition system. Electronic engine control systems have their advantages, which are as follows.
  • a) precise dosing of the amount of fuel in each engine operating mode, which ensures lower gasoline consumption while maintaining good dynamic performance:
  • b) reduction of the amount of harmful exhaust gases as a result of precise fuel dosing and purification of exhaust gases using a catalytic converter operating under the control of an oxygen sensor-lambda probe:
  • c) self-diagnosis of the control unit, which allows you to find the fault faster. The petrol injection system is equipped with a "memory" that creates a log of errors during vehicle operation. If defects occur in the ignition or injection system during operation, they are recorded in the created log. If there are any malfunctions in the injection system or engine, you can get a printout of the fault log for a fee from a specialized workshop, so that you can eliminate a particular defect yourself if necessary.

The electronic engine control unit is a small, fast-working computer. It determines the optimal ignition timing, fuel injection timing, and fuel injection volume. At the same time, the unit is coordinated with units of other vehicle systems, such as the automatic transmission control unit.



All ignition and fuel injection system components are designed for long service life and require virtually no repairs. As part of maintenance, it is only necessary to change the removable air filter element and spark plugs. Major adjustment and repair work should be entrusted to specialized workshops that have the necessary instruments and devices.

To avoid injury or damage to the fuel injection system or fuel system, the following safety precautions are recommended:
  • Do not touch or remove high voltage wires while the engine is running.
  • Connect and disconnect the wires of the injection and ignition systems only with the ignition off. The same applies to the wires of the measuring devices used to perform measurements on these systems.
  • Persons with a pacemaker should not be allowed to perform work on the electronic ignition system.
  • When checking compression, fuel injection must not be performed.
