Replacing the front oil seals (Peugeot J5)

To replace the seals in the front cover, it is necessary to remove the engine and timing belt. To make the job easier, you can screw in two self-tapping screws on both sides of the seal and use a screwdriver to pry up both screw heads alternately, or pull out the seal with pliers.

When installing the oil seals, lubricate the outer sides and sealing lips of the oil seal with engine oil and carefully press the oil seal in. The crankshaft oil seal must be properly positioned in the oil seal (see also figure 323). It is also important that the dust protection sponge does not turn out during pressing. If this happens, it can be straightened with a paper clip as shown in Figure 353.
